what you would need to do is texture the planet with the same texture as the star...make it emissive and viola you have your ringed star...You may even at this point change the stars texture and color and using the atmosphere elements change its photosphere...you can then have green or even simulate ultra violet stars eg: Noctis in the eta carinae system I created

There's still the problem of the rings disappearing if you're "too far away". Once the central object is too small to resolve, the rings are diabled, too, even when they should be visible.
Invisible planet, perhaps?
Using transparent .png textures, in principle it should be posible to create invisible planet as big as star.
By the way which windows image editor is compatibile with png format used in celestia?
Celstia won't read my textures.
