Newbie Question

Hello,
I want to observe the night sky using Celestia.
I go to Object Earth, type in Lat = 52 and Long = 9 which is my positon on earth. Then I press Ctrl+G to "go to earth".

Does this mean, that I am now standing on earth, at position Lat=52 and Long=9 watching the night sky ?

If this is correct so far, how can I determine in which direction to the the horizon (North, West,East,South) I am looking ?

Frank,

Unfortunately, Celestia does not have a compass grid built into it. However, if you turn on its display of the Celestial Grid, it'll draw circles around the North Pole on the sky. To turn on the Grid, you can either select it in the menu Render / View Options or type a semi-colon ";"

Frank,

Yes, if Celestia's time is set correctly, it will show your sky.

Also Frank, you should try Stellarium which would be the perfect solution for night sky viewing/identifying (if that's what your main goal is ) :)
