All-sky background picture

"The Borgs" wrote about a possible background picture in another topic, and I added a link in my reply. Because I thought it would be of interest I decided to create a new topic and quote myself:

It would be nice to show an all-sky panorama like the one here http://canopus.physik.uni-potsdam.de/~axm/mwpan_vr.html if the observation point is "close enough" to the sun...

What do you think?

seems pointless now that nebulae are going to be available in 1.2.6

Now, yes. Still a lot of nebulas and clouds to be made before you get something similar though! And I know its not "compatible" with the structure of Celestia. Forget that I ever brought this up.
