Hello, sorry but all Celestialmatters links give this error:

Error establishing a database connection
This either means that the username and password information in your wp-config.php file is incorrect or we can't contact the database server at mysql.ibiblio.org. This could mean your host's database server is down.

Are you sure you have the correct username and password?
Are you sure that you have typed the correct hostname?
Are you sure that the database server is running?
If you're unsure what these terms mean you should probably contact your host. If you still need help you can always visit the WordPress Support Forums.

And this shows when trying to connect to Celestialmatters Home page:

Warning: mysql_connect() [function.mysql-connect]: Lost connection to MySQL server during query in /public/vhost/c/cm/forum/db/mysql4.php on line 48
Warning: mysql_error(): supplied argument is not a valid MySQL-Link resource in /public/vhost/c/cm/forum/db/mysql4.php on line 330
Warning: mysql_errno(): supplied argument is not a valid MySQL-Link resource in /public/vhost/c/cm/forum/db/mysql4.php on line 331

Any idea? Hackers? Maintenance? My problem?
Tks.

They must be working on something. This morning, about a half hour ago, I didn't have any connection problem but now I do. First I got the same stuff Andrea showed but now I get a similar message but it is on a World Press page.

I recently finished a second version that was processed with cubic spline reduction. Some of the details and examples of the changes can be seen here. http://forum.celestialmatters.org/viewt ... c&start=60
I HAVE NOT made any updates to my site or to Celestial Matters. I will be updating my site with only the specular landmask map. I will be not be updating the watermask map since most of the changes were in the coast lines and the specmap tool over writes them.
The landmask specular map already has a minumum value of 0x1f for land and a max value of 0xff for water. This file will be able to be used with the tool tx2rgba directly. I will post here when my site is updated.
Since there are still details to work out with the specmap tool and how the tool can be used with this newer version, I will not be updating the file at Celestial Matters yet.
These images are a little dark but I like the effect. They were taken using the newer specmap.

For my next project, I'm thinking of updating the 84k srtm map with srtm3 edited 90 meter data. Then the srtm normal map and spec map will be exactly the same. The current 84k srtm map is using unedited data. There is also a software package called Grass I came across while working with Gdal Utilities. There may be a way of using Grass to extract the lakes and rivers north of 60 degrees on the 84k srtm map. If this works, then water data can be added to the spec map north of 60 degrees. Here is a link to the Grass web site. http://grass.itc.it/

I have a little dilemma here. The new spec map file is compressing to 38 or so mb. I don't have the space at my site unless I delete something. I'll probably delete on of the 3dmars models but I haven't decided yet. The old file has only 2 values so it compresses to 12 mb but this new one has more than 2 values and is compressing to a bigger file.

Very interesting, but still is lacking a Watermask that works with BMNG itself! :x I can??t make any texture with F-Tex Tool without a help of a script and no one created it...

The updated landmask file is at my site.

danielj,
Try to go through this page. It describes what to enter on the command line to create the bmng textures. If you try this new "landmask" map at my site you must remember not to use the specmap tool. Just start with the tx2rgba program.

Thank you very much, but APPARENTLY the DOS command line don??t work anymore in my system.Anything is DOS related, behaves like that:the window open and closes very fast.I think I will wait...there isn??t still ANY script available, which is a pity
I am talking about finished scripts, not one how to do yourself script. The BMNG normalmap I did, after several tries, were only possible because I had an automatic script

danielj,
Check your environment variables. In case you don't know how, right click on the my computer icon and choose properties. Then choose the advanced tab. Then click on the Environment Variables.
It should look like this.
Image
Make sure ther is not a ";" in front of C:\Program Files\F-TexTools.
In other words if you see this ;C:\Program Files\F-TexTools then remove that ; in front of the C:\. Then your commands may work.

Hi,
I fixed a couple of minor errors in the Australia region (double islands ) and uploaded a version 3 of the land mask. I'm going to put this to rest for a while and unless someone points something out, this will be the last update for a while. I also updated the 64k texture kit to use the newer version. Just a couple of name changes.

It looks like your starting from scratch so first you'll need to download FTexTools. http://forum.celestialmatters.org/viewtopic.php?t=70
You'll also need the GZIP utility. http://www.gzip.org/
Then you can get the 64k-bmng-texture-kit from my web site page SWBD Specular map. The link to my site is below all my posts by clicking on the www tab. There are further instructions in the kit. This will create a VT 64k texture. Make sure you have the available disk space. About 20 GB would be safe. Also a video card, etc. If your using Celestia now you probably have a good enough video card. Good Luck.

The 64k-bmng-texture-kit is meant for Windows users. If you use Windows,
all that you need to do is install FTexTools (nmtools too if you want to create a normal map) and the GZIP utility. If you run into a problem using FTexTOOLS, this link may help. http://www.celestiaproject.net/forum/viewtopic ... 7013#97013

Then download the 64k-bmng-texture-kit from my web site. There will be instructions and addresses for the data files you need to download from NASA. After everything is downloaded you are just a few mouse clicks away.

this is way too complicated for me. is there a way to just download it and extract. instead of using the mumbo-jumbo stuff. no offense. oh and I tried extracting the bin file from the nasa site and it appears to be corrupted when I extract from gzip. I use firefox to download

Which file from nasa are you trying to extract? If you download the 64k-bmng-texture-kit, a bmng file from NASA, and the landmask from my site, all you have to do is install the FTexTools, Gzip, and click on decompress-landmask.bat and when that is finished click on make-bmng.bat. That's it. What is so complicated about that? If that is too much, I'm sorry. That is the best I can do.

NO, any textures made with my F-TexTools are NOT for download, but for making yourself. That's why I spent a long time to develop and optimize these tools. Many people before you succeeded easily and enjoyed making their own highest quality, optimized VT's.

If you don't like that then you will have use far less good textures and incorrect normal maps from elsewhere. There is a price for everything!

jgrillo2002,
Congrats!
Did you try to build a normal map too? There is a bat file and readme in the earthnormals directory. After you download what you need, just click on the makenormalmap.bat file.

What I wrote was not rude, but just corresponded to the straight facts! And you showed that you can also nicely manage to use these tools. Congrats!!

If you quote me, you must quote me correctly, please! I did NOT use the expression "crappy textures". I precisely stated the facts.

But, perhaps I still remembered your unpleasant previous appearance in this forum concerning my friend ElChristou and his great Celestia models... Sorry about injecting this prejudice...
