What is Celestia?

I blundered into this BB while searching for info on a new computer. The postings look quite interesting and I have registered as a new member but am curious about the general definition odf the group.
Thanks for any information someone can provide.

Celestia is a free, extensible, 3D, realtime astronomy program.

Well in that case... MY APOLOGIES to all. Still, if the admittedly NEW
user is simply trying to gain information concerning our favorite
past-time, couldn't we be a TAD more accommodating in our replies?
