(solved)problem in vista, OpenGL wasn't installed correctly

I've got a rendering problem in windows vista.

COMPUTER:
core 2 duo @ 1.89GHz
ATI radeon x1650SE.
Windows Vista Home Premium 32bit
(rest doesn't matters)

DESCRIPTION:
(In vista using dx10, the graphic card is shared between applications so you can switch without having to wait a few seconds or more)
Celestia seems to decide to switch to it's own context every time for
rendering a new frame in Celestia.
This problem makes Celestia very, verrrrryyyyyyy slow.

STORY:
It has brought up by another user but back then I had only tried Celestia on my Vista computer from an usb-drive. I thought it was because I ran Celestia from that usb-drive. But when installed on my computer it also was very slowly.
And this is not normal with a core 2 duo @ 1.89GHz and a ATI radeon x1650SE. I also recognized the behavior of Celestia to be like when you trie to switch to and from the desktop to an application constantly in windows XP:!: .
This is why I blame it to the unnecessary change of context on the graphic card.

(I've had this problem also with another application, program but I don't know what that application, program was anymore.

I don't think that this is why Celestia is running slow--I've used it on Vista before and it hasn't run noticeably slower than it did on XP. More likely, the problem is that you're not using ATI's OpenGL driver. Just go to the ATI (or AMD) web site (http://ati.amd.com/support/driver.html) and download and install the most recent drivers.

What you' re saying is making sense.
When I go into the settings of my ATI card. I see:
OpenGL Version Not Available

I have drivers installed from ATI and updated to the newest version.

STILL have the same issue!!

Seems that there should be SOME way to configure the OpenGL on your
machine. With Nvidia and Vista, I have the choice to use either DirectX or
OpenGL.

Do you have no way to configure the card to use the OpenGL settings?
Seems like there should be something available.

Don't know, just trying to help.

Thanks, Bob

hoeraa I've solved it

Removed everything except the minimum (the drivers)

Then downloaded from ATI site (the first time I tried with Windows Update, that's why it didn't worked):
Catalyst Software Suite (32 bit) English Only

This package contained:
Display Driver
ATI WDM Integrated Driver
Catalyst Control Center
(English Language Only)
For the 32 bit version of Windows Vista.

So I think I was missing the ATI WDM Integrated Driver because I had previously downloaded the Catalyst control center and the Avivo package. But those things didn't solved it.

(That's why OpenGL didn't worked, the drivers and software probably weren't installed correctly or not at all the first time, so all of it had to be reinstalled completely.)
