2 Simple Questons So Please Answer !!

Hi again

Q1) Every time i create my own texture and wrap it round a planet a HUGE line from the norh to south pole shows. Can someone tell me what i am doing wrong please. I think it is because my texture is not fully "finished" but other than that i do not know. By the way all my textures (except for rings and clouds) are JPEG's.

Q2) How do i give a planet a temperature because all my others say -1K and i really want to make a decent good system for the first time.

First part of your question; the reason for the line on the planet is because the textures edged to not blend into each other. There is a slight Hue or Color differences between the edges. The easiest way to fix this is to Break the image in half and move the images halves around. Ex. (1,2,3,4) becomes (3,4,1,2) now you should be able to clearly see a line. Then all you need to do is blend the colors so the line disappears.

As to the second question; the temperature give is in back ground radiation, not the temperature of the planet itself. The only way to raise this is by moving the planet closer to the star.

One thing you have to remember about this program is that it is or tries to be as scientifically accurate as possible, or at least within computational reason. This means that you will not be able to create planets with (fake) dynamics. Ex you can not place an ice world next to a star and have the average temperature read as -200C it?€™s not possible.

Edit: you might want to look at this. It will help in the generation of orbits.

Albedo is a measure of how much energy the object recieves from the sun. Your planet probably has an albedo of 1, or higher, so it reflects everything, keeping it really cold (as to why it gives a negative Kelvin value, I don't know. It shouldn't. Maybe it's a bug). An albedo of 0 makes it absorb all the energy it recieves from the sun. If you wanted to decrease Mars' albedo, that would heat it up, but you could only heat it up so much.

No it doesn't. Just look at star rendering, and stellar sizes.

Ah but I can with the albedo line of text. If I want, I could put a planet within literal arm's reach of the stellar surface and keep it at absolute zero. Here's an example I made, Sirius Ab (fictional):

I could have put the planet even a metre from Sirius and the temperature would still be absolute zero, as long as albedo is 1. Similarly, I can lower the albedo all I want and get any temperature I want. Celestia even allows me to extend the albedo into the negatives, but it seems large negative values are needed to get high temperatures. For example, here, Sirius Ab migrated 1500 AU away from the star(s):

Mr. Noob, as for your first question, I once had the same problem, and I fixed it by getting a new video card.

I guess I learn somethgn new every day, I didnt know that thoes were related. Probably becuse I dont use it much and never paid attention.

this is very interesting. I never experimented that far with the albedo and temperature, in Celestia. Thanks for the info. :)

Mr.Noob, for your first question, probably you need to do the texture seamless. If you use Win here there is a freeware program for doing it. Do not mind at bricks, the image editor within the program is independent and does able to render as seamless whatever texture, and it make even the corrispective normalmap.

why you spent all the money to buy PS in the first place?? ;-) .

There is a nice help and many excellent step-by-step
tutorials in the net. You surely don't want us to repeat
such basic stuff once again, after it has been said many
times in many public places, do you?

Mr. Noob,

Just a quick piece of advice from ANOTHER Noob...

I used a FREE program called PhotoFiltre which can easily be downloaded
from freeware sites to repair a problem similar to yours. This was really
very EASY to fix too.

Simply offset the image by 1000 pixels, so that the edges came together in
the center of the screen when I edited it. That way, I could see exactly
where my problems were, and then I could merge the pixels as I liked.

When I was finished, I simply offset the image BACK to where it was
before I edited it, and voila. Seams all gone.


Just thought it might help.
