Wanted: Support For TGA Textures And Special Characters

I would like to use .TGA (Truevision Advanced Raster Graphics Adapter, Targa for short) images as textures for planets, moons, asteroids, and comets. I'd also like support for non-8-bit characters like:

There are inumerable converters .tga <=> .png, both are lossless formats capable of an alpha channel. So, why do you want .tga format...?

Do not the PNG and TGA formats have different pros and cons even if they are ever so slightly different? Alessandro Ghignola of anywherebb.com uses .TGA format for his programs. What if there's someone capable of writing to TGA format but not PNG? Did you respond to my request for non-8-bit characters (*should* have posted in Celestia Users forum)?

As far as I know, TGA has no advantages over PNG . . . The only reason to add TGA support to Celestia is to eliminate the conversion step for texture creators. I (and I believe I speak for Fridger on this issue, too :) ) am utterly unmotivated to support a new image format unless that format has some significant feature that PNG, JPG, or DDS do not.

Lack of support for non-ASCII characters is a regrettable limitation of Celestia, and one that I intend to fix. Multilanguage support requires it . . . And, I can't even spell Bo?tes right!

Targa Truevision and Portable Network Graphics are different in internal file structure only....Both have the same abilities and both are unnessicary...TGA files however are the preferred use in making DDS textures...I havent tried PNG format as im not sure if the nvdxt tool supports it....

I do however support the idea of special character usage in ssc and displays in Celestia...There are times where I like to name my planets with the use of special characters...One drawback would be in that using the Enter command....Unless you know ALT + (numberpad) ;)
I'm trying to teach the cavemen how to play scrabble, its uphill work. The only word they know is Uhh and they dont know how to spell it!

Then how about adding a multilanguage keyboard that looks like this:

Code: Select all

Regular Multi-Language Characters:
|?|?|?|?|?|?|?|?|?|?|?|?|?|?|?|?|?|?|?|?|?|?|?|?|?|?|?|?|?|?|?|?|
|?|?|?|?|?|?|?|?|?|?|?|?|?|?|?|?|?|?|?|?|?|?|?|?|?|?|?|?|?|?|?|?|

Special Multi-Language Characters:
|?|?|?|?|?|
