Now that would be something, and I'm no doubt it would lead to some very impressive and accurate installations of Celestia.
However, for me (not being a 'scientician') I fear my installation would result in this...

So I think I'll stick with the manual download.

I don't really want to re-install 1.4.1 to see the USSR test, so I look forward to seeing the Eagle touch down on the roquefort ;) in the 1.5 version.
Keep up the good work.

You can test it on celestia 1.5 but script don't work fine and the rocket liftoff is far from the launchpad.

"
ElChristou"]I'm still a bit short of time those days so the modelling is a bit in standby but in the meantime Linuxm@n and Gilles are still working on their calculations and I use the little time I keep for Celestia for other little things...

So patience is the word! :

I have found a launchpad for Apollo 11 in th google sketchup search, it will ba more easy to make a liftoff, i have made the ground image with google earth.
Gilles is working on his sofware for celestia 1.50 but we have timing problem with 1.50pre3 cause time in ssc file is different as time on the screen.

Someone know if the "USA" was painted on the 3rd stage of the Apollo 11 saturn? Despite quite some docs now, I not completely sure... :?

There was no artwork on the 3rd stage other than the black and white pattern on the interstage fittings.

"USA" and the flag was on the first stage.
"United States" was on the second stage.

Here are some pictures:

Because of a break today, I've done a flash session of modeling for the 3rd stage; actual state:

Despite Andrea's researchs (I myself have done some without results), I fear it won't be possible to achieve a detailed model of this 3rd stage. Because of almost no close ups and no blueprints, I cannot model accurately the articulations of the 4 panels of the SLA, the thruster system for their opening, and in general many others important details... :x

So before closing the modeling of the 3rd stage, if someone knows a place where to find such details, please, let us know! Tx.

Chris, after another digging session, here are the (not so good, alas! ) results regarding the SLA panels articulations:

Image

This is a technical drawing showing the SLA panels hinge, that you can find at page 15 in this NASA document:
http://ftp.tiscali.it/andrea_celestia/s ... 026226.pdf
More technical drawings like this:

Image

can be found at pages 28-30 in this NASA document, regarding the Saturn-Apollo pyrotechnics:
http://ftp.tiscali.it/andrea_celestia/s ... 029260.pdf
I'm searching for thruster system for their opening, vents etc, but it's a long way, if something exists it's surely in technical documents, that have the bad usage to have a lot of pages and just some (if any!) illustration.
Anyhow, I'll try.
Moreover, and this is mainly for linuxm@n, here is the text transcription of voice communications to-from Apollo 11, with exact timings:
http://ftp.tiscali.it/andrea_celestia/a ... pt_tec.pdf
May be this will help for ssc files.
Bye

Try to enquire over at the http://www.bautforum.com. Seems it is a popular hangout of space engineers...

If you want to communicate with real rocket scientists, then visit
http://forum.nasaspaceflight.com/

It isn't affiliated with NASA, but many current and past NASA employees post there.

Thanks a lot, rthorvald and Selden, your links are producing very interesting results. :D
Just to begin, here is something new for Chris:

Image

Image

These and more images are in the pdf file you can find here:
http://ftp.tiscali.it/andrea_celestia/third_stage.pdf
In the following page:
http://spacemodels.homepage.dk/saturnv/s-ivb/s-ivb.htm
there are images of a very detailed S-IVB model, whose here are some examples:

Image

Image

Image

Image

that has been built up following the incredible drawings by David Weeks (ten 24x36 inch drawings, price US $60.00!!! Sorry Chris, too much for me), whose here is a low-res example:

Image

and here a hi-res one:
http://www.realspacemodels.com/html/satv.htm

Please, any Celestian owns them?

And to end this long message, here is the full list of markings used on Saturn:
http://www.apollosaturn.com/markings/mguide.htm

A lot of work for you, Chris, sorry.
Bye

Ok, many interesting docs here; concerning the model you point here, the level of detail is unfortunately not enough for our needs...
Concerning the eventual "attach ring" (this ring with many holes visible at the bottom of the 3rd stage in this model), I'm wondering if there is not and error of interpretation; this ring is visible in many docs during assembly, but I'm wondering if it wasn't part of the lifting system of the stage (for manipulation) or really part of the stage itself (there is an attach ring, but not sure it's this one...)...

Chris, here you have a 360?° 4 images rotation of the SLA (Spacecraft- LM Adapter):

where you have all the external data you need, I hope.

Probably you are right, it shows as an excess of unneeded details, probably wrong.
But sincerely at this point I have not clear what exactly you are actually missing.
Could you be more detailed, please?
Tks.
