Hello!
A total neophyte here, who needs some help with addon installation. Most things are rather obvious, and on-line installation guides have cleared up most of my questions.
However, some addons do not have an immediately apparent installation destination. "earth-normal-hs", for example. The archive contains a "texture" folder and an .ssc file. but I do not know where they should be placed. In the main texture folder of Celestia? Or, should I make an "earth-normal-hs" folder (containing the aforementioned files) in the "extras\addons" folder?
Thanks for your help!
Where does this thing belong?

Where does this thing belong?

You shouldn't put Addons in the main directory.
All Addons should go in Celestia's subfolder named /extras/
That's where Celestia looks for them.
While you could put the ssc file and the accompanying /textures/ folder directly into /extras/, I would suggest creating a folder in /extras/ with an appropriate name (earth-normal-hs perhaps) and putting them there.
Whether or not you'll actually be able to see any results from the use of this surface normal vector map depends on the details of the contents of the ssc catalog file.
Does this help?
p.s. If you're using Windows XP, drag the zip file icon into your extras directory and then double click on it.
In the popup window, double click on the option "extract files here". If you say OK to all of the wizard's popup menus, It will do the right thing, creating a subfolder and putting the Addon files in it.

Thanks for the reply!
OK, this is what I thought should be done but I wasn't sure about some of the addons (particularly things for the planets in our solar system). So, I'll go ahead do this, see what happens.

There is no need to quote the entire post just above your reply, FM3.
Anyhow, welcome :)
