Bug in some stars label and Orion's belt isn't there

I just noticed a small glitch in the display of some stars labels. Apparently, the exponents aren't right in several cases here :

I also noticed that Orion doesn't have a belt. Stellarium and all my astronomy books are showing a belt in the Orion constellation. Adding the following line into the asterisms.dat file :

Code: Select all

[ "Zeta Ori" "Epsilon Ori" "Delta Ori" ]

gives a nice belt :

Martin,

I think that this is simply because only the 1, 2, 3 exponents characters exist in UTF-8 encoding that is used by celestia to render star names.

This is strange. Are you sure of this ?

I know nothing about the UTF-8 encoding.

Thanks.

Then I guess we'll stay with that small inconsistency, unless there is a subtle trick which I cannot know. It isn't that bad, anyway.

If you like it, why not ?

I think it's an improvement.

About the exponents, do you think there may be a solution ?

Vincent is correct: there are only superscript numerals in UTF-8 are 1, 2, and 3. A solution would be to switch to using a small font for superscripts, but it's a lot of work to introduce the concept of font styles into Celestia's text renderer. The extremely limited impact of the problem combined with the difficulty involved in fixing it means that it's very low on my list of priorities for Celestia.
