Selden is completely correct. Most of the people who post here have higher end graphics cards- the rest of us mostly just read and try and learn :)
I have an integrated graphics card and Windows XP. It says directx8 is supported BUT, it will not run dds files. I have had no problems with jpeg or png files to 2048x1024 in version 1.2.4 Later "pre" versions have caused some problems.
My point is that there are MANY of us who enjoy this program who do not have the latest in graphics and Chris' version 1.2.4 seems to support this by not including huge textures (yes I am jealous of those of you who can use a BIG Earth texture!)
Please keep some of your textures/add-ons to a size usable by folks such as myself :?

Well I did say from the start I planed on scaling the textures down for smaller sizes. If I scale them down to 2k or 1k than everyone should be able to use them and it won't take up as much room on the server. :)
I will make these in a .png file format which should be compatible for everyone. Just remember that you are going to loose detail at those resolutions. But at least can play with them and see what its all about.

Seldon,
I found out what was giving me the grief with those first atempts. I was trying to use the photoshop nvdxt plugin to make the .dds textures. It worked ok for small ones but it would ruin anything larger than 2k.
I then moved to the DOS based version thanks to Rassilon and it been smooth sailing ever since. I just wish I could crunch an 8k texture. I need more RAM but I can't see putting money out even as cheap as it is on equipment that is starting to get long in the tooth. Yah I am calling my 1GHz machine long in the tooth. I need better memory bandwidgth. Its stuck using PC133 SDRAM even its it has 768mb of it. I kick myself because I had a chance to buy one of the rare motherboards that supported Intel P3s and DDR memory. I was dumb, slap me for it.
Well maybe by spring I will be able to get an AMD Athlon 64 rig put together. At the least I will be moving to an Athlon XP in the 2GHz range and 1 GIG of memory is manditory. Maybe the tax check will get me an NVidia GeForce Fx. Ah one can dream... 8)

P.S.
The GreenMars textures are finished! I just need to upload to the space that was alocated to me, as soon as I figure out how. I haven't heard back from the site admin about the steps and requirments yet. Please bare with me. As soon as they are up I will post the download info here.
Now I have some textures that I have to resize. Buy!

Well I haven't posted any info for a few days. I have been called back to work so I haven't had any time to work on anything.
Borg Collective asked if I could post some pictures of GreeMars with its moons. I have done so in my Gallery. There in a subgallery album on Terraformed mars. Heres a sample.

I call it GreenMars over Stickney crater.
I will hopefully be uploading the textures for download soon but I still haven't heard from Chris on the procedure yet. I have sent him two requests for help and info and haven't received word from him yet. I know with the server going down and the holiday he has been busy. So everybody just hang in there and I will have them up for download soon.

Would it be possible to include the textures as images in the gallery?

There just to big. Each one in png format is 28megs. The load time in a browser will be to long and I wouldn't want to tax the shatters.net server like that. I will just have to wait to here from Chris about how to upload files.

THEY'RE HERE ! ! !
Ok everyting is ready for download. You can get all seven versions of Mars in various stages of terraforming. They are all in the .dds format at this time. There are one or two textures to be made yet. One to go in front of TM1 and one for after it but they are far from ready. So you can download them at http://63.224.48.65/~impulse/TM.html
I want to thank Chris again for the space so I could share these with you.
Also any and coments on the textures are welcome. In paticuliar I am interested in feedback of the brightness of the textures and if they may need any desaturating. I am still tweaking them and an update will follow in a few weeks. I will be ajusting the color values most all and some adjustments will be made to the brightness. Again all feedback is welcome and needed.

Don,

Thanks!

Now if only it didn't take so long to download them :(
But that's not your fault, I just like to complain ;)

Mike,

Don's directory of texture files is on ennui.shatters.net (aka http://www.shatters.net). When shatters.net is having problems, Don's textures are unreachable.

It's probably easier simply to visit the Web location http://63.224.48.65/~impulse/ and browse the directory for the appropriate files than to try to maintain links to specific ones.

I will adjust the url so that it goes through the ip adress directly instead of going in the front door as this is an ongoing problem here. I don't even use the front door to use or read the forums or gallery anymore do to all the problems.

selden, I went to the link you provided, but the file doesnt seem to be there either. it could just be that don has taken it down. i only need it to download in the event that i get my 'storage site' working so i wont have to depend on other peoples sites like i currently am.

billybob884,
All the versions of Teraformed Mars are there. There are 7 versions of the texture in total. Here are some direct links for everyone who can't get in the front door.

http://63.224.48.65/~impulse/TM01.zip

http://63.224.48.65/~impulse/TM02.zip

http://63.224.48.65/~impulse/TM03.zip

http://63.224.48.65/~impulse/TM04.zip

http://63.224.48.65/~impulse/TM05.zip

http://63.224.48.65/~impulse/TM06.zip

http://63.224.48.65/~impulse/TM07.zip

Remember that each one shows mars in a diferent state of tereaforming.
And billybob884 thanks for giving other Celestia users the options to download fron a much better organised site than mine was. I hope anyway. Good Luck.

well i dont see how it could be considered as someone hacking in, considering all you have to do is type in hte address in and you get a full list of each and every file, but thanks all the same

download them at http://63.224.48.65/~impulse/TM.html
Or : http://63.224.48.65/~impulse/TM.htm
typo alert ? ! It works if .htm is used instead of the .html in Don's original

Marc,
What it MH?
Of course you can as they are basicly open source. I not even the original creator. I am just the one who recolored them.
