compiling problems

I tried to update my Celestia today: the download seemed to go fine, but the build failed.

So, i deleted my Celestia project (the entire folder) and started fresh. This build worked, but the resulting application crashes immediately when i try to launch it.

(On Intel OSX 10.4.8.)

What do i do now? Is this on my end, or on the server end?
I am pretty much ignorant of everything regarding compiling software, i just follow a recipe that has worked up until now.

Once done, no need to rename anything in macosx, you should be able to open celestia.xcodeproj without problem and compiling with success...

I had to register in their developer program to be able to download the update. Oh, well.

Sure... But don??t remember the user ID, i haven??t used it for years. To me, all these sites wanting one to register for the tiniest thing is just an annoyance, generating one throwaway ID in their database after another...

This looks like one of the files you have is not the latest version (probably MainMenu.nib, or ScriptsController.h/ScriptsController.mm).

Could you try using these steps to download from CVS to a clean folder? (Updated 2007-06-17)
**Note that the cvs commands are different from the commands I wrote last year**

(0. If not already done so, install Xcode 2.4.x from the OS X CD/DVD, or download it from Apple. Make sure that you choose options and install the Universal SDK)
1. Open Terminal
2. Type, or paste in: cvs -d:pserver:anonymous@celestia.cvs.sourceforge.net:/cvsroot/celestia login
3. As the Password: prompt, hit return
4. Type:
cvs -z3 -d:pserver:anonymous@celestia.cvs.sourceforge.net:/cvsroot/celestia co -P celestia
(the "co" means "check out")
5. Wait for a while, until the download is complete
6. Navigate to the new "celestia" folder inside your home folder, look for the celestia.xcodeproj file inside the "macosx" folder and double click it
7. Choose Build > Build and Debug, or Build and Run

I selected "build and debug". After a while, i got a message in xcode that said it succeded, so i tried to quit. It seems some process was still running - i guess it was just a printout of a debugging routine, so i quit anyway, after a while (how long would that have gone on?)

Anyway, this resulted in a celestia.app, without the accompagnying directories. So i dropped this into the Celestiafolder i retrieved a couple of days ago and launched it. This worked! It is labelled "debug version" - but that is what you were after, i guess...

Anyway, it works. Should i try to do a regular update now, and see what i get?

I can??t test, i don??t have a scripts directory. Where should i make one, and what would be its name? (I have a scripts menu item, but no scripts).

Try copying the "scripts" (all lowercase) from inside the celestia folder that you got from CVS, into your CelestiaResources folder. Relaunch Celestia to see changes take effect.
