In need of assistance

Post #1by Crystalmir » 26.05.2007, 18:25

Hi I'm new to Celestia and while I read the guides I still have some questions. It might just be that since I don't have very many computer skills I'm missing this but if I want to make a planet where do I write the code? I figured out what I want my code to say but I can't figure out how to get it onto the program. Can anyone explain this please?

Please take a look at the Web page
http://www.lepp.cornell.edu/~seb/celest ... intro.html

Please let me know where it can be improved.

I found that guide very helpful but when it said to type something, like the HIP number, and save it in the add-ons folder I didn't understand where I was typing it. I made an add-ons folder and following the example a HIP500000 sub-folder but can't figure out where to put the code to actually make the star. Other then that I found the guide very helpful in explaining how to write the code and transfer textures and such. I feel like once I figure out where to put the code I'll have no problems in making things.

First you need to start a text editing program, like Notepad.

Type the text of the Star description into a file named hip500000.stc using Notepad or your other favorite text editor.

The file named hip500000.stc goes into the directory (folder) Celestia\extras\Addons

Then start Celestia by double-clicking on its icon
(which is a picture of Jupiter and its moon Io).

When Celestia starts, Celestia's window will be active (its header bar will be whatever bright color you have selected, usually blue if you haven't changed the Windows defaults).

In Celestia's window, press the [return] key. That key often is labelled Enter
Then type the letters
HIP 500000
and another [return]
and then the letter g
