Why does this forum have so few women??

My wife just sent me the new numbers for Kiel University:

53 % of the Diplomas in Mathematics are now by women!

[The German Diploma is a bit more advanced than a Masters, but roughly comparable]

This is quite a remarkable percentage, I think!

Programming certainly is not futile, but it takes a considerable investment to become proficient.

Just visiting these forums to read and chat about the universe in general (and Celestia in particular) like quite a few of us do, might seem futile though.

Well, it depends on how you define the word active. I'm activly reading all new interesting posts in this forum many times daily, but since I have nothing intersting to say I keep my mouth shut... :wink:

I'm patiently waiting for t00fri's updated nmtools and his 'new' txtools, so I'll keep checking out the forum until I have this new toys... :lol:

You guys do have some funny ideas about us. lol
I've always been interested in science and science fiction but often find myself in the minority when it comes to gender. I'm not sure why but it just seems more guys are interested in this kind of thing. The only reason why I don't have a career as a scientist of some kind is because I'm just plain stupid.

I am always pleased by Reiko's creative, artistic avatars that also keep changing from time to time.

Recently there was an interesting finding from a large-size investigation: intelligence was said to be predominantly a matter of training rather than a "material constant" of peoples' genes...

So there are good chances for almost everyone ;-)

You accidentally delete something? I have you beat. I once deleted a project I was working on to combine a models together for an addon. The worst part is I went even further and empty my recycle bin out of habit. I had to start all over again.

As for why there are not more women here into celestia, I think it's training too. Women are not often raised with encouragement to go into science so you see a gender ratio favoring men. Keep in mind this is just my personal experience and does not apply to every individual.
That said, I have managed to get a few cousins, friends and my mother into celestia, all women.

. Who are they? What comes to mind immediately is how the gender might have been shared among those 11460 readers?? ...

I have been reading this thread with some interest. I have thought about it myself,but only quietly.I can't speak for others,but my opinion would be that if the forum members would be able to tell their female friends,girlfriends,wives and colleagues about Celestia,perhaps they would take an interest themselves,and maybe also take part in the forum as well.

That is my suggestion anyway,

I've told my mother, two aunts, and three close friends. All woman and all run celestia. Not sure why my friends don't post on the forum but my aunts can't read English so they ask me when they have a question.

Unfortunately, I seem to remember that the concrete resources I was referring to were written in German. Possibly they translated them from an English original, though
