The Gliese 581 system
bh: is it that the name isn't declared? Try using the designation HIP 74995 instead - does this bring up the star?
If so, is the name Gliese 581 declared for the star?
Try downloading the newest version of starnames.dat from CVS.

bh: Put Celestia in verbose mode (V key cycles between no information, brief and verbose) What does Celestia display as the name of the star? On my system it shows (when selecting the system from the vicinity of Earth):
Wolf 562 / Gliese 581 / HIP 74995
Distance: 20.476 ly
Abs (app) mag: 11.57 (10.56)
Luminosity: 0.00201x Sun
Class: M2V
Surface temp: 3580 K
Radius: 0.26 Rsun
Rotation period: 9.600 days
Planetary companions present
Does your Celestia list the synonyms Wolf 562 and Gliese 581?
If not, try downloading starnames.dat, available from the link I posted above - go there, click download on the latest revision (currently 1.24). The file should be placed in the data folder of your Celestia distribution.
If that fails, you've probably got some add-on conflicting with the definition. I've checked the add-on in this thread and it shouldn't cause these problems.
