512x16 works fine, too. That's what's shipped with Celestia for Saturn's rings.

Okay, after experimenting a bit with numbers and textures here's the result. I've intentionally changed the image brightness to make the pics clear because it's hard to see the rings (like the real Jupiter rings :P) as usual, the image for reference:

This shows the accurate positions of the rings (compare with top pic):

Feel free to make any suggestions, comments etc :lol:

I'd love to see what they look like on my screen though... Could you post the .png and declarations for this too? Thanks!

Cheers!

Troy,

Thanks for reminding us!
It's too easy for postings to get buried, I'm sorry to say.

I've added a link to your Celestia Web directory in the list of resources on my own Celestia Web page. I hope that's OK. You might want to consider including a web page or text file describing your contributions. Filenames by themselves sometimes can be confusing, no matter how clear they seem at first. A copy of the thread you reference or a link to it might be appropriate, for example.

Thanks again.

They wouldnt stay buried if peeps would make use of the forums search facilities...I think me and Fridger would die happy men if even one would use it :mrgreen: tho I have been known to over look sometimes postings here...
I'm trying to teach the cavemen how to play scrabble, its uphill work. The only word they know is Uhh and they dont know how to spell it!

Well I sure have used the search tool. Thats how I found the old posting to me on how to make transparent cloud textures. At the time of the post I was lost on how to use Gimp to make them. Now I can't blieve how easy it was. Thank goodness the search tool was there or I would have never found the post. I just wish everyone would consider at least using it before asking a question to see if it has already been asked. It would kill about 25% of the repeat posts we see here.
I am officially a retired member.
I might answer a PM or a post if its relevant to something.

Ah, never say never!!
Past texture releases, Hmm let me think about it

Thanks for your understanding.

You only have to add this under Jupiter/Sol section in the solaysys.scc file:

Rings {
Inner 92000
Outer 221000
Texture "jupiter-rings.png"
}
Greets :P
