Moon orbit color

While editing an old system of planets and moons, I was striked by the new color used for moon orbits. I'm not sure it's a good choice. Here's an example :

Image

Firstly, I think the color (purple) isn't right for moons.

Second, there's an annoying alpha (transparency) effect, especially in front of a gas giant, and the orbits appears much finer (weaker) than all the other orbits. May I suggest to try green orbits for the moons ?

Any opinion on this ?

Green sounds good.
Current Setup:
Windows 7 64 bit. Celestia 1.6.0.
AMD Athlon Processor, 1.6 Ghz, 3 Gb RAM
ATI Radeon HD 3200 Graphics

What I think would also be quite helpfull would be, if the Objects in the Solarsystem browser would be colorcoded to the same color as the orbits.

So one would know with a glance what class an object (of which you only know the name) has.

Just my 2 cents,

Guckytos

I fixed the problem with the transparency (not in CVS yet.) It was an easy fix--notice that even in 1.5.0pre2 there's no problem when smooth lines are enabled. I can change the color to green, but there's a potential problem: the human eye is more sensitive to green than blue, so unless a very dark shade of green is used, the moon orbits will stand out more than the planet orbits.

Yes, the moon orbit shouldn't be too much visible, compared to the planet orbit. A medium dark green (or blue-green) should be okay.

(blue) green is used already for a number of items: grids for example, galaxy labels, ...

How about a dark forest green? Later!

Would it be possible to put orbit colours in the config file? That would enable people to find a set of colours that suit them.

That's a good idea. Probably the best way to satisfy everybody.

That's my eventual plan . . . All of the label colors and orbit colors will be set in the config file, and then someone with better design sense than me can develop a default color palette that looks great.

Could there then be a colorbox added to all the things that have a particular color in the view options dialog. So there could be picked a color by clicking on the color box. With also the default color somewhere separated or an options to restore colors (individual or all in once or both) to default values? Or will there just be a config file, which is also okay for me.

How about this?

I think that I'm going to add the orbit and label color parameters sooner rather than later. I'm not excited about spending a lot of time tweaking these colors myself.

Chris,

I think this is better than the actual purple orbits. I could tweak the green color a bit myself, if we can change it via the config file.

I think the blue fraction in the green orbits should be somewhat increased, to make it fit better to the conspicuous bright blue orbits...

I agree. That's why I also suggested a blue-green color.
