Earth History Project

I want to create a tool for showing earth history pinning the events onto a map of the Earth. I would like to use a 2d images of the earth and the time date clock in the top right.

As time increases it would be possible to witness the rise and fall of empires, the spread of religions, science and inventions etc. using scripts and embedded web links to information about that historical project. This would effectively bring together all of earth's history into a more manageable and logical way. This would hopefully give better perspective , my historical knowledge is rather stuck in Europe and I would like to have a more world wide view of history.

Would this be possible using Celestia? If so how would I learn to manipulate Celestia to do what I want, is there a way I can learn to program and edit scripts? Is there any one else who would be interested in this project or knows of a similar one that has already been started?

Thank you

Well, one can use Beginning and Ending directives to make objects appear and disappear. e.g. flat models carrying images of maps and labels. I don't recall if Location or object labels disappear outside the specified time window (they ought to, I think).
