Please add support for ATI cards

Post #1by SteelyKen » 24.03.2002, 07:05

First I want to say thank you to the author(s) of this fine software. I love the ability to roam the solar system with a first person perspective and look at the inhabitants in all their 3d glory. I have noticed, however, that bump mapping as well as pixel and vertex shaders are not working with my ATI Radeon 8500. I perused this forum and noticed in one thread that bump mapping was only supported on Geforce cards. Is this also the reason the shaders are not supported on my card? I hope that this will soon be enabled for all of us Radeon users (there is a lot of us!) so that we may also more fully enjoy the Celestia experience. Thanks again!

I already asked about support for Radeon 8500 in this thread: Grayed out options under Render menu. Radeon 8500 is very popular here because it is not very expensive and has great speed and image quality. I think it would be great to support it.
Live long and prosper!

I want to support the Radeon 8500 . . . the problem is that I don't have one myself, so I can't test out an implementation of pixel and vertex shaders for this card. However, I should be able to support bump mapping via the DOT3 texture combine mode, as this works on both the Radeon and GeForce. I may try and get this working for Celestia 1.2.4 if all the bug fixing proceeds smoothly.

Maybe a 9700 Pro... I'm getting weird texture bugs. That and vertex and pixel shaders are turned off... :/
