Linux or Windows?

Post #1by zeraeiro » 06.12.2006, 02:01

Is there anyway to know if Celestia runs better on Linux or in Windows? Is there anyway to benchmark it? What about different distros in Linux?

Thanks in advance,

Jos?© Raeiro

I think it is the same thing under Windows or Linux and the most important to improve Celestia's performance is to have a good configuration in your computer including processor, memory, graphic card and others.
Motherboard: Intel D975XBX2
Processor: Intel Core2 E6700 @ 3Ghz
Ram: Corsair 2 x 1GB DDR2 PC6400
Video Card: Nvidia GeForce 8800 GTX 768MB GDDR3 384 bits PCI-Express 16x
HDD: Western Digital Raptor 150GB 10000 rpm
OS: Windows Vista Business 32 bits

well i do belive that on fedora6 (linux) it runs faster .

because almost all programs do run faster on a linux box
But for my exp . win XP and a dule boot Fedora-6 ,Celestia dose run faster on a linux box
Aprox. 5 to 10 f/sec.

with a nivida GeForce -mx-400 card [OLD]

This post has intrigued me. I'm currently DLing the Fedora Core Linux and I'll try and test out Celestia once I have it installed on a 3rd partition I'll have to make (the 1st being XP and the 2nd being Vista RC1).

I'm setting up a Debian machine to run Celestia on... I'll let folks know if I get any kind of hard testing data on the speed comparisons... Right now I can't get it working properly with Vista RC1 but I'm trying that too so I can compare on all platforms (cept mac cause they suck!!! j/k... I don't own one, yet!)

How did you measure the f/sec?

Thanks :)

f/sec are based on subjective evdence it sems to run faster
iss is less jercky in orbit on fedora6 than win xp
