Katrina

Post #1by cartrite » 03.09.2006, 11:39

I uploaded this model last week and it may become available on the motherlode when I am on vacation, so I will try to show some of the defects I found out about after I uploaded it. If I had it to do over I probally would not have uploaded it.

The lighting is a little darker in OGL2 than the rest of the clouds as seen here.

In render modes other than OGL2 it will appear lighter than it should. The problem gets worse around sunset / sunrise.

At sunset / sunrise this occurs

In OGL2 it looks darker and disappears before sunset / after sunrise becomes visible late.

This is the same model that I got this screenshot.

It was deigned for the upcoming release of Celestia but still works well in 1.4.1.

It is a single storm with an invisible box around it called Earth2 so you would need to goto the surface if you wanted to right-click on the Earth and select a Alternative Texture, etc. In version 1.4.1, OGL2 is not enhanced to show what is seen above and it reacts like it does in other render modes while using the cvs version. That is, it is lighter than it should be. Those with a cvs version dated after 08/30/2006, will see the effects as shown above.

Cartrite,

I didn't test your model yet, but maybe that picture of Hurricane Gordon as seen from the Space Shuttle Atlantis could help to compare :

Wow, that's pretty awesome. 8O I'm curious, does it spin and follow the actual path in realtime?

I think Chuft-Captain is trying just that.

Well I was....until I got distracted by other priorities.

I'll try to get back on this soon.

:)

PS. Thanks cartrite for revealing my secret mission.

Hi guys,
I have a problem with the Katrina model. When I select an alternate texture of the Earth (going down to the surface), navigation becomes incoherent afterwards, although I'm still on Sync Orb. Whenever I try to mode, I seem to go the wong direction!

I'm aware of this problem. You have to goto the surface so you can get under the invisible box that surrounds the planet. I created a bookmark at the surface (distance=3km) so I can goto it and select a virtual texture. Then I got another bookmark to get me back into orbit.
