Controlling a telescope with Cellestia

Hi all,

I know that there are already commercial software that can point a telescope to a certain body or location in the sky.

I am wondeing how feasible would be to create a plugin/extension to Cellestia that could do the same thing

I for one believe that would be very cool.

Such a plugin could become a commmercial option, maybe Meade or others could bundle it with the telescope.

Just another thought :-)

Cheers!

Try a search in this forum for "telescope control" and you will find quite a lot of threads on this topic, for example:

chris wrote:Telescope control is probably a feature that won't make it into Celestia. There are quite a few programs out there that do this already (and are probably better suited for it than Celestia.) Also, I don't own a telescope that connects to my computer, so I'd have a hard time implementing telescope control anyhow :>

Just from the layout of Celestia, this issue is not very sensible. Celestia is certainly not a platform for EVERYTHING. It's way more reasonable to implement telescope control into EARTHBOUND precision ephemeris programs like Xephem, Stellarium and others.

You might want to investigate Iris,. It includes telescope control and image processing, but not a sky map.
