Hello all, I just joined today. Thought I would start off with a question.

I need to know what scripts Celestia will accept. Mainly xml but also different types of overlays. More question to come but these will do for now.

I thank you for your help in advance.

Anthony,

Asking a completely different question of your own in a topic started by someone else is considered extremely impolite. It's called "thread hijacking". Please don't do it again.

I've moved your question to its own topic, where it belongs.

Celestia does not use xml.

Celestia's scripts are written either in its own language (.CEL scripts) or in Lua (.CELX scripts). They cause Celestia to do things in an order determined by the author of the script. They're an alternative to you, as Celestia's user, pressing command keys while Celestia is running to change what you're looking at.

I could have sworn there was scripting FAQ as a "sticky" at the top of this forum, but I sure can't find one now. In the meantime, please read the Preliminary User's FAQ, which is a sticky at the top of the Users Forum, especially Q/A #15. (I'll copy it and make it a preliminary Scripting FAQ at the top of the Scripting forum in a few minutes.)

Celestia's catalogs, which may be what you're really asking about, also are written in Celestia's own descriptive language. They aren't scripts. They're essentially descriptions of where objects are in space and where they're travelling. You can look at their results, but you can't change where things are going while Celestia is running.

My bad for hijacking the other thread. Sorry. I guess I got excited when I found this forum.

I guess what I was asking was vauge at the least. I am more interested in the ability to control what Celestia does without using the actual celestia program. A interactive educational game so to speak.

By the way...nice forums.
