Looking for opinions...

Post #1by LordFerret » 29.08.2006, 19:32

I'm looking for people's opinions of the freeware 3D modeling packages posted in Seldon's List (Anim8or, Blender3D, etc). I'm wondering which of them to be the better package overall for design of Celestia models. I have a project I'd like to undertake, my first, a satellite.

Thanks!

Thanks for the link, it answers a lot of my questions (and heightens my level of indecision LOL!). :D

I think the only way you'll decide is to try them.
That's how I made my decision.

POVray is a very good freeware 3D modeller ( http://www.povray.org ), but it's rather different to the ones you were looking for opinions of (for one thing, it's a programming language/script based thing, you don't create the models visually) and I don't think it's all that compatible with Celestia. However, it's a darn good modeller in its own right.

I've not looked at POVray (yet!) but I have grabbed copies of Wings, Blender and Anim8or. I'm a fish out of water here, learning to breathe... I can see I've quite a bit to learn. :?

Thanks for all your input! :D
