Another newb question.
Alright I've been looking around here to try and find somethings on how to do atomosphere and rings. I've figured out how to do ring textures as alternating light and dark areas but I don't know where to put it and i don't know what kind of filetype I should use. I found pretty much nothing on how to do atmospheres so if anyone has any tutorials or advice i would greatly appreciate it.
My advice would be to look at the standard solarsys.ssc that came with Celestia, found in the data folder. Almost all the planets have an atmosphere, and a couple of them have rings, and in IMO all the code is fairly self-explanatory.

Also the atmosphere.txt and debug.txt now save to the C drive... The next version will allow you to specify a working directory...
You can also edit the variables in the editor window and they will reflect in the viewer... Just click on the viewer to update what you type in the editor...
