Displaying night sky from specific location on specific date

Post #1by amhranaiochta » 06.07.2006, 15:22

Hello! I'm a newbie, and I suspect there's a really simple answer to this question, but after dinking around in the program and perusing the User Guide, I can't seem to find my answer.

Here's what I want to do:

Capture an image of the entire night sky as seen from Dublin, June 16, 1904, at 03:33 AM. With the stars a bit exaggerated, so I can see stars that aren't ordinarily bright enough for the naked eye.

I seem to be able to locate Dublin and set the correct time, but I'm having trouble with getting an image of the entire night sky.

I've tried to change the FOV to 180??, like so:

# Field of View (UNcomment / modify to meet your needs)...
# Default is 25 degrees, at a screen resolution of 1024 x 768
set {name "FOV" value 180.0}

...but when I do, the start-up screen ends up like this.

My resolution's 1680 x 1050, memory's 2 GB DDR SDRAM, & my OS's Mac OS X 10.4.6, if it's relevant.

Sorry, Celestia's field of view is limited to 120 degrees.

Welcome!

Why using the start.cel to set your FOV? why don't you do it once you are on Berlin, looking at the sky at the date of your interest?

I seem to have figured it out. Thanks!
