Sorry, but...

I downloaded both of the PSR1257 and Eta Carinae files, and unzipped them into my Celestia directory (By the way, awesome mesh for the expansion gas bubbles of Eta Carinae, Rassilon). I looked in each sub-directory and saw the textures of Eta Carinae planets/moons, Eta Carinae.ssc, etc. all in their correct directories. However, even though it seemed that the .stc files were in their correct directory (extras), I can't find the stars themselves in Celestia :( . They just don't exist when I type in their names. I've tried everything: changing the configuration to only read the stc files for the star databases (with info. on our sun), making new data folders with the Eta Car. info in them, with the configuration set to read those files, you name it. Anyway, I was wondering if anyone would render me just a little more help :?:

Did you check to make sure that the file starnames.dat in the data directory was properly updated? Neither psr1257 Nor Eta Car are included in the databases shipped with Celestia. They have to be appended as star numbers 300002 and 300003.

The last three lines of the updated starnames.dat would be
118322:EPS Tuc
300002:PSR1257
300003:ETA Car

(EPS Tuc is the last line of the original file)

I hiope this helps.

Unfortunately, this is one of the features (all names in one file) that needs to be changed to make it easier for expansion kits to be added to Celestia. But Chris knows that ;)

Chris mentioned a while back adding star labels to stc files which would fix this...I suspect it will appear eventually...
