Celestia comes with Suse Linux 8.1!

Post #1by scruloose » 27.10.2002, 20:31

Last week, I upgraded to Suse Linux 8.1. I got a pleasent surprise...Our beloved Celestia 1.2.4 was was included with the Pro version! One click and it was installed, added to the menus and working perfectly.

This version of Suse must have an improved OpenGL implementation because it no longer locks when viewing ringed planets.

Mike,

Celestia is available under the Gnu Public License. Anyone may include it in their sofware distributions so long as they abide by the provisions of that license. The license is included among Celestia's files on sourceforge.net at
http://cvs.sourceforge.net/cgi-bin/viewcvs.cgi/celestia/celestia/COPYING?rev=1.1&content-type=text/vnd.viewcvs-markup

The GNU license is used by many software developers. Many other people strongly object to some of its provisions. You might want to become familar with it.

Excellent news! I hope that Celestia will soon be included with other Linux distributions as well. Congrats to Suse for getting OpenGL working right out of the box.
