dumb question about planets

Post #1by peteuplink » 21.06.2006, 19:28

is it possible to edit the scripts to make the planets "solid" so that if you were so inlcined you could land on them? Just a thought.

No, but you can "land" on them by going to a planet, hovering over the spot to land at, typing Y to sync your orbit, and CTRL-G to goto the surface. The word "solid" has little meaning to the computer. Everything is defined by points in three dimensional computer space. You couldn't really fill an object. However, code could be written to tell the computer that you have intercepted a surface and should stop. This has not been implemented in Celestia, and probably will not be as there is no purpose for it. Celestia is not a flight simulator per se.
