I've just downloaded and registered some very awesome software:
it's called Desktop Dreamscapes. It's a 3D animated background that runs in your desktop!
And it got some real cool animation effects. I've seen some breathtaking sun & comets animations and it's worth downloading!
It would be nice if Celestia had some of thoses bells & wishles in "future" version. It's not THAT important, but it would surely enhance even more the visual quality!
Try and see for yourself!

Yeah, but i still think the best way to point out a suggestion is to have an example of it. I think that's easier.
in SkyOrb there are also features i like in particular, you can set your home location, so that you can go there and see the sky at your location at any time of the day. I had something else, but i forgot, anywayz celestia beats them all :P

very nice, but i think chris has already made it a point not to discuss other software on this forum, although i must admit its not bad...
I'm sorry. I didn't knew that. I have searched the forums about the desktop software before to make sure it wasn't already discussed before. I'm always proceeding this way before posting anything, and that's for the benefit of the readers.
Also, maybe I should have post the topic in the "Celestia Development" in the first place. I think it would have be more appropriate there.
As for not talking about other software in this forum, well it isn't written anywere not to do so. If Chris don't want that, I won't do it again.
But it's form my understanding that softwares evolve not only by devotion and creativity from the people that writes them, but also by looking at what the others are doing too. Any programmer have the right to not implement in their program someone's else idea, that is a decision that only them can make. But asking for the users to not discuss other software in the forum, is, pardon me but a little over the top.
Maybe creating another forum thread like "Other stuff" would be appropriate in this case.
And like I said, when I posted this topic in the first place, it was an OPINION, NOT like a feature request. I don't want Chris "loosing" time on something that isn't essential to Celestia's Development, since it has already a very good graphic engine.
Celestia and Desktop Dreamscapes are two distinc software, and they don't do the same thing because they don't have the same goals. So therefore I don't think it's a bad idea to look what's done out there. It can only be more profitable for the community, in the end. Sure, if someone had to implement everything that users are requesting in their program, that wouldn't be a very practical thing do to. But then again, having opinions and suggestions is very important I believe, even if it's not to be implemented.
I'm a graphic designer, and taking a look at what rival graphic design compagnies are doing is important because you can improve your own ideas by comparision, or take their idea and do something completely new, creating something that you didn't even thinked before. It's essential I believe. It tell's you a lot of things about what's been done and what will. Having your head in sand sand like an ostrich is not an option here.
That said, I' m sorry if I have offended anyone here (including Chris) by talking about another software here. It's is universe and I wont do it again, even if I don't entirely agree with this sort of thinking.
Anyway, have a good day everyone and enjoy the creativity of our programmers! :)

no, i didn't take any offence, i was just saying that some people may, since there was a big dispute over some other program that some kid was advertising and charging for , which wasn't really that good from what i heard. and your other idea about the OTHER STUFF catagory does sound interesting. i also think that (if chris has the athority/ability) is that there should be one day/week/however long he needs/etc. to clean out all unimportant topics and start out fresh and (near) empty. just an idea, open for critisim.
Talking about other software
Hi,
I can't speak for anyone except me, but I don't like any author to promote and sell his/her stuff here.
But I would like to hear about new concepts and ideas in the form of thoughts, suggestions, Celestia feature requests and similar software projects as Celstia. Even when they're commercial.
I don't like 'this app is better that Celestia' but I'm interested in fresh, new approaches or old ones which can now be reevaluated again.
CU, Axel

Redfish,
What do you mean by "cleanup"? There are many ways this might be meant and I don't know which one you're suggesting.
Compared to some other forums where I contribute, the Celestia forum is small, concise and used by friendly people. Maybe the individual sections aren't as specific as they might be, but that's no big deal considering how few posts there are.
You might want to take a look at one of the major home theater forums and then reconsider just how much a "cleanup" is needed here

With cleanup i mean something like, put all topics except the active ones in an archive that's available for search, but don't show them in the forums themselves.
Or add an option to show only topics of the desired time period (1 day, 1week, etc)
Cuz the major big huge forums i also participate in have this option, which makes sure that the number of pages you can browse in a single forum are not like the 10 or 11 that you can browse now. Besides with so many topics search is more efficient than browsing through them.

I have made a partial texture based on one of the planets in this program. I am having a few problems with it tough. I have it currently in two parts. 1) I don't know hoe to make the dark sides light, so they look like the normal sides. And, 2) The dark sides don't match too badly, but the light sides don't really look too good. If anyone can fix either of these problems, I would greatly appricate it.
