enlarging textures

Post #1by jgrillo2002 » 16.06.2006, 02:45

Hi. im not sure if this was asked but I am creating a saturn scenery for 3DS max and Im using Mr. Schrempp's "blue hat" texture. now heres the tidbit. I wasnt sure how to make the texture bigger like 8K without actually blowing it up looking all blurry. I use photoshop for my textures.

Thanks
Zack

Hello Zack, surely Fridger or someone else will explain you the many reasons why in Celestia upscaling is OUT and downscaling is IN  , but if you wish to try anyhow, go here

Photozoom Professional uses advanced S-Spline Algorithms, and probably is the best one for this purpose. 8O
There is a free tryal release, both as stand-alone and PhotoShop plug-in, give a look.
Bye

Hey, this plug seems to work pretty well!!
Now one have to keep in mind, the result will be good when there are some "hard limits" between color zones, when the contrast is high etc... (I have a doubt concerning saturn's map)

In all case, the rule of not blowing up a map is legitime for realistic stuff (official stuff), for the rest everybody is free to do what he want...
