Beginning and Ending in stc files

Post #1by buggs_moran » 18.05.2006, 15:02

Has there been any work on beginning and ending dates for stars in the newer releases? I searched the forum and came up with a post in February by Selden stating it wasn't supported, yet... I have a couple arguements for this to be implemented.

1) Stars that we know supernovae dates for could be added. (ex Tycho's nova, Crab Nebula nova.)

2) Varying magnitudes based on actual dates (AAVSO data)

Another related post to the one above. Is there ANY way to temporarily change the position of a star aside of having some script do it outside of Celestia?

No, so far as I know, Beginning and Ending are still not implemented for Stars.

The only way to change a star's position is to put it in an orbit. Maybe orbiting into the same location as a larger opaque body would hide it. While EllipticalOrbit works for stars, I don't know if SampledOrbit does. You might give that a try. It would make it easier to hide a Star.
