Hello all,
I'm using Celestia for about a year now, and it is a really great program.
Some weeks ago i found the new addon AcrossToMars from Selden Ball. I installed it into my local extras directory, and it works well. But only with the precompiled package version of celestia.
With a self compiled version (configure, make, make install) of celestia it will not work, regardless where I placed the addon files.
First, I moved the addon from my local extras folder to the celestia extras folder. Then I placed the files from the addon subdirectories to the corresponding celestia subdirectories.
But the result was the same. I can select and go to the locations (for example the spacestation in earth orbit) but the models will not be shown like in the precompiled pacakge version of celestia. I will only see the labels and location dots. That's all.
The next step was, compiling celestia with different GUIs. Nothing changed, same efeect.
Last step was testing it with the previous version of celestia (1.4.0). The result is, that all is ok with the prcompiled package version, but with the self compiled version I will again see only the labels and location dots.
Can anyone give me a tip what's going wrong there?
Thanks in advance
heiner

You haven't said what operating system version or compiler version you're using to build Celestia.
There have been some reports of problems with gcc v4 under linux, in particular of cmod models not working. That would be consistant with what you report.
However, there also are reports of it working again with recent releases. See, for example,
