Which Cassini Addon did you install?

There are at least 3 of them in addition to the one that comes with Celestia.

Which Huygens are you trying to look at?

Each Addon includes different versions of Huygens with different names for different dates. Celestia does not provide a way to have exactly the same body travel along different trajectories, so there are at least four different Huygens to look for: one that flies with Cassini, one that travels from Cassini to Titan, another one which lands on Titan, and the final one that is sitting on Titan's surface.

What date is Celestia simulating?

You have to set Celestia to the date that's valid for the version of Huygens that you want to see. Only the appropriate model is drawn at a particular date (by the use of Beginning and Ending directives in its SSC file). If you set today's date, you'll only be able to see the one that is on the surface of Titan.

First, I would like to thank you for detailed answer.

Which Cassini Addon did you install?

There are at least 3 of them in addition to the one that comes with Celestia.

I instaled fullversion (108mb large), didn`t download extras (317mb) jet.

Which Huygens are you trying to look at?

I can see the Huygens that flies with Cassini. But can`t see one that travels from Cassini to Titan, and one that lands on Titan.

What date is Celestia simulating?

It displays 01.14.2005. when the script is started.

Thanks

Where did you get that Addon, who is its author, and exactly what is its name?

The largest one I know about is on the Web page http://celestiamotherlode.net/catalog/spacecraft.php
It is by Jestr and is named "Cassini_Huygens descent and landing." Its Zip file is named "Cassini_Huygens_Landed_CMOD.zip," is only 4.6MB, and does not include a script.

OK: I've downloaded it and looked at the first few seconds of each of the 5 parts of the script.
I see Huygens at or near the beginning of parts 1-4, but not Part 5, which is about Cassini.

At the start of part 1, it's on the side of Cassini.
At the starts of parts 2-4, it's on its own, either closed up or open for landing.

Do you see Huygens in any of the parts?

Have you tried going directly to Huygens on your own?

If you set the date to 1 Jan 2005 and GoTo "Huygens (free flight)" do you see it?

One of the problems with this Addon is that it is extremely large and runs very slowly. My system runs at only about 2-3 fps when Titan is in the field of view. It runs much faster, 30-60 fps, when Titan is not visible. Most systems will run it even more slowly.

Could this be part of your problem?

My system specs:
1GB 3.4GHz P4 550, Win XP Pro SP2
128MB GF 6600 GT, ForceWare v84.21
Celestia v1.4.1 final

I see Huygen in first part, but don`t see at 2-4 parts.

Yes, I see it.

My comp also runs much slower when Titan is visible.
My sistem specs are:
256mb of ram, 1.7 GHz, windows XP pro SP1, G-force 2 MX 400 64mb.

It could be that the large virtual textures are overflowing your graphics card's memory. You might disable them to see if that makes a difference. One way to do this is to rename the medres folder so that Celestia can only use the surface textures that are in the lores folder:

e.g. rename
\th_titan\textures\medres
to be
th_titan\textures\medresNO

then try again.

Another problem may be the size of the CMOD models for the landing site on Titan that are in \th_titan\models\

You might try renaming them, too, so Celestia can't find them. e.g. rename
\th_titan\models\th_titanlake.cmod
to be
\th_titan\models\th_titanlake.cmodNO

No, there is no diference.

Another thing I notice, Celestia doesn`t displays right Titan texture. Th_titan texture should be red (yes?), and I see orange Titan.

When I downloaded script I tried to see if it works (it was very late, so I left watching the hole script for morning).If I remember corectley, I could see the Huygens then (I`ve played second part), and Titan was red. But next morning I couldn`t see Huygens.

Unfortunately, I really don't think I can help much more with trying to find where the bug is.

At this point my suggestion would be to try to redefine the Addon so that it only tries to draw Huygens. Rename th_titan.ssc so Celestia won't try to use it: th_titan.sscNO
and then create one that contains only definitions of Huygens. E.G. test.ssc might contain

Code: Select all

"Huygens1" "Sol/Earth/ISS" {
Mesh "th_huygens1.cmod"
Radius 0.04
LongLat [ 0 0 0.1 ]
}

"Huygens2" "Sol/Earth/ISS" {
Mesh "th_huygens2.cmod"
Radius 0.04
LongLat [ 0 0 0.15 ]
}

"Huygens3" "Sol/Earth/ISS" {
Mesh "th_huygens3.cmod"
Radius 0.04
LongLat [ 0 0 0.2 ]
}

"Huygens4" "Sol/Earth/ISS" {
Mesh "th_huygens4.cmod"
Radius 0.04
LongLat [ 0 0 0.25 ]
}

"Huygens5" "Sol/Earth/ISS" {
Mesh "th_huygens5.cmod"
Radius 0.04
LongLat [ 0 0 0.3 ]
}

Then when you GoTo ISS, you should see something like this:
Image
The surface of Titan should be various shades of brown, from a very pale golden brown to almost black. You can turn off "Show Clouds" in the Render "View Options" menu to see the surface.

Titan's clouds should be a bright golden brown with white speckles in a region near the south pole.

Here's a picture of Runar's Titan with no clouds:
