Time in Celestia

Why Earth goes around Sun in one Month (not one year)?
(Celestia 1.4.1)

If that were the case I think we'd have gotten more than one bug report about this.

More probably your installation is at fault.

Bug reports belong in the 'Celestia Bugs' forum and it's a good idea to include your system details.

Make sure you're watching the Earth going around the Sun and not the Moon going around the Earth! :)

Or, it could be that you installed an Addon that changed the Earth's orbit.

What are the other planets doing?
at only 100,000x, they all should be just creeping along.

Venus should take about 0.6 years, Mars should take ~1.9 years and Jupiter ~11.9, for example.

You next should look at the SSC files to see what they say.

\data\solarsys.ssc should have an entry for Earth which includes the statement

Code: Select all

   CustomOrbit "vsop87-earth"

There should be similar CustomOrbit declarations for the other planets.

Then check what's in your \extras\ folder.

Click here, 100 000x is approximately 1 day/s, and it would definately take ~ 360s = 6min for the Earth to go around the Sun if I were patient enough to wait for it.

If this not what you see, something is wrong with your installation.

It's true ! On my computer Earth goes around Sun 23s (~23 day not 365).
I have fresh install. At first I install 1.4.0, when I saw this problem I install 1.4.1.

I believe you. You should uninstall Celesita, make sure all files are gone, and re-install.

Christophe make this operation:
1. Start program
2. Take Goto Object
3. Object: Sun, Distance 5 au
4. Press Goto button and close Go to object window.
5. Pres key "L" 5x
Earth rounds very fast.
Salvage - press Esc - ALL IS OK!

It is because your viewpoint is turning with the Sun as it rotates. The GoTo command places you permanently over a particular Latitude and Longitude. The Sun has a rotational period of about 25 days.

Interesting, that's exactly what I did to produce the url above. The Goto long/lat dialog does not put you in sync orbit under KDE, it probably should.
