A step behind:globulars

Post #1by danielj » 31.01.2006, 13:54

In the Celestia 1.3.2,the Rassilon??s M4 was still working.Since them,no globular is shown in Celestia.I would like to know how long will it take until I can see 3D globular clusters in Celestia 1.4.1 or after,since the only available are photos of the objects,which give them an aspect of wallpaper.I would like to see objects similar in aspect to Rassilon??s or better...

Daniel,

Ras' program generates stars randomly in a sphere. It works OK for me with Celestia v1.4.0, although the cluster's stars seem to be rather dim.

M4 was a specific addon.Very good,indeed.But I cut the M4 addon from Celestia 1.3.2>Extras and paste in Celestia 1.4.0>Extras and in the newer version,I typed M4 and Celestia couldn??t find it.I search near Antares,too and it isn??t there.

Daniel,

If you look in the files that are provided with the M4 addon, you will find that it does not define any object named M4.

If you want to use that name, you could create the following .DSC file:

Code: Select all

# Globular cluster M4 / NGC 6121
OpenCluster "M4"
{
   InfoURL "http://simbad.u-strasbg.fr/sim-id.pl?Ident=M+4"

   RA 16.393
   Dec -26.525
   Distance 6.848e3
   Radius 55
}

I used the declaration OpenCluster because it just places a label in space, it doesn't try to draw anything else.

Now it works.But what about the pulsars.Why the pulsars??jets are shown in Celestia 1.3.2,but not in Celestia 1.4.0?In this newer version,the version is simple a neutron star with the astar.jpg texture.Maybe because you can??t define a texture for stars in Celestia +1.4.0?

Daniel,

v1.4.0 shows the jets for me.

Maybe you are too close to the star.

Try backing away to a distance of about 63km.

Well,the jets are shown.But there is no "texture" in the jets;they??re opaque white.In Celestia 1.3.2,the jets are "transparent" and with some sort of texture.Maybe the characteristic of not define texture for stars,in Celestia 1.4.0,works the same way to the jets as well.
