Anyone know of Free Web Hosting?

Post #1by Chuft-Captain » 15.01.2006, 04:45

I'm looking for somewhere to host files that I want to share with other people for collaboration, consultation, feedback, etc. (ie. not yet ready for The Motherlode)

I've tried Geocities, They have 15MB space, but they have a 5mb limit on individual uploads. I need at least 12-15mb limit for 1 file.

Anyone know of anywhere that's got space of say at least 50MB, allows large uploads (at least 12-15mb), doesn't make you pay for a domain name, and no popups etc. (I don't mind topbanners too much).

Sorry,

I should have made myself clear. I need this, not for images, but for ~15MB zip files (ie. addons containing multiple file-types including some large files which can't be chopped up into 5MB pieces).

So I'm looking for general web-hosting where I can build a web-site and share files as opposed to specialised image-hosting services like imageshack.

Cheers

There are almost none free webspace providers which allow files that large. A good alternative could be a free file storage like Yourshare.de (unlimited uploads, individual files of up to 50mb in size) and a website somewhere else (eg Geocities).

I've prepared this for another forum, so I'll post it as is:

Web Developer Resources

A list of resources for creating a Web site. All links are for freeware.

1. http://www.weballey.net/ Basics of HTML code.

2. http://www.ornj.net/ This link is for both Web Album Generator and Araneae. These two programs are created by Marc McIntyre. With WAG you can create a photo album which can be uploaded directly to a server. Araneae is an HTML website editor for those who like to write their own code.

3. http://www.virtualmechanics.com/products/dwarf/ This is a free wysiwyg web editor for HTML and SVG. If you don't care to write your own HTML code, this is the editor for you. It will let you create a website in minutes.

4. http://www.sitesled.com/ Sitesled provides 100 MB of free web hosting.

5. http://www.fookes.com/ezthumbs/ This program lets you create thumbnails, handy for creating links.

With these resources you can create photoalbums, link to these albums on a web site and upload this site to a free web hosting server. Support forums are offered for all programs except the WebAlley site and the thumbnails creator.
