Limb darkening

Post #1by buggs_moran » 24.12.2005, 13:32

I know from my search in the forum that there is already limb darkening on the planets. Shouldn't it be applied to the stars as well? Or is it already and the luminosity just overcomes it? It wouldn't have to be much, just enough to give a sphereical look to stars. I was doing some research for an addon and came across this, don't know if it would be helpful in the programming...

I(q)=Io(1-w(1-cosq))

q = angle between the normal to the stellar surface and the line of sight to the observer.

Io = the intensity of light in the center of the stellar disk (q=0)

w = is the wavelength dependent limb darkening coefficient (<1, ~0.3)
