I could really use some new cloudmap for Mars. I'm currently using John VanVliet's Mars VT and, I think, what should be his cloudmap. And i think I had your previous Mars DDS as part of F.Gregorio's pack called general add-ons for celestia. Your newer version looks far better, with far less of the preshading that caused very strange effects on the surface. OOps, it's late I have to go. Have a nice day and good work :)

Ok I have yet another new Mars textures based on Mario's Space-Grphics M46-V2 Mars textures. I have gotten pretty good at lighting up shadows and leaving most of the detail behind. These four pictures compare Mario's texture before and after hadow clean-up and a slight recoloring. Oh and a complete reorientation of the texture so it matches Celestia's needs. I also removed the seam line that is hiding along the edge of the texture but ends up in hte middle when reorienting. So have a look. Oh and these pictures are for Andrea.

As you see there are some big differences in the textures. I m still working the main texture a little and if Mario give the green light I will be releasing it very soon.

Don, you are truly a very kind man, I don't know how I can fully show my appreciation for this. :D
I'm affected!
And regarding the images, I love the slightly pinkish result, it's closer to my telecope observations of Mars.
If I'm right, you was preparing a normal map too, isn't it?
Well, the time we'll have to wait to have it on our minitors is fully worth waiting.
Good job, as always, Don, thank you.
Bye

What a good news... I don't know Mario, but seems he's a cool guy! :P

Mario is a true artist and a very nice friend! We have been
working together a lot! Usually it was about noiseless
gigantic textures...

While I agree with Don, that Mario's procedural textures are
overcontrasted for smaller sizes (they are not made for that
;-) ), they are getting really good for 32k and bigger!

Here is a "little" close-up from the 32k resolution:

Incidentally, that's how Mario's 32k Mars looks in our new
Celestia-FT1.1 version, with M31, M32, M110 shining and
some thin Mars clouds being illuminated by them...

My God, this is almost incredible! 8O
I'm waiting for my 6800 Ultra, so I hope that this will be available one day.
Thank you Fridger for sharing this astonishing image.

Wow...

Thanks for the screen shots, Good Doctor. Now that's how a planet
should
be reproduced within Celestia. :!:

Thanks Andrea, Bob...

since I kind of like the latter image I made a "800x690
splash" out of it. I display it below, in case someone cares
to use it as well...

You know, in the Linux version, Christophe coded a neat
splash folder where you may simply drop any nice
images that are shown in random sequence upon startup
of Celestia...

Cheers,
Bye Fridger

Can wait to see it Don...

Ok, now the fatal question...

Which one has the more accurate color?

Any chance of something like this for the windows version.

If Don keeps this up, pretty soon all the textures on my system will be his. :D :D
