New 3D nebula

Hello,

Although Fridger and Toti did a fantastic work on the galaxies (many many thanks :D), nebula remain complex to build  .

Here is my small contribution :

- A new 3DS model of Helix with visible inner texture
http://j.leboutet.free.fr/celestia/models/HelixModelV2.zip
You need to download the original zip and replace the model with the new one.

Sorry, but opening M57 file WinZip gives me this error:
"It does not appear to be a valid archive".
Someone has installed it?
Thank you for the info.
Bye

Transfert problem

Damned  it seems a problem occurs in my upload ...

I correct the problem, ... and test download
All is fine now.
Thanks for advice.

Abroad of this problem I have a little question for Mac owners :
Is there a problem if zip archive or file names contain spaces ?

Have fun

Hi JLL,
It should not break anyhting to include spaces in a file name on Macs or Linux, however you should always avoid this just to be safe. Use a dash or an underscore instead.

Cheers,
Joe

Jll

I get a strange effect on the outer disc part when rotating. If I'm looking at it from the side at an angle, part of the texture appears/disappears (depending on which way I'm rotating) in strips. It seems to only happen where the bubble part is behind the disc. I hope this makes sense, I don't know the proper names of features. I'd upload a pic, but I don't have a website to link to.

It's still a great model though, improved over the last one. M57 is my favorite and I'm looking forward to the cat's eyes. Great work.

Darthyip,

Unfortunately, the effect you see is due to a deficiency in how Celestia draws a Nebula object. The facets are drawn in the order they're defined in the model. They are not depth sorted.

May be also that the structure that I used to build my model does not facilitate the representation in celestia :
Image

The inner plate gives some side effects when we move around.
I dont know if this structure is realistic ?

I made another 3D model of NGC3132 (based on killeen's add-on) without this plate. http://j.leboutet.free.fr/celestia/models/NGC3132_EightBurstNebula_3D.zip

Do you think it's better without the plate ?

I figured it had to do something with Celestia's rendering.

I still get the same effect with the new NGC 3132 you provided. Not sure what's still causing it. I say stick with what you were doing before. It's only a very minor quibble, and your nebulas look amazing to begin with. Keep up the good work. :D
