Alternate Star Textures... How?

Hi folks...

I want to change ONLY the appearance of a star (namely Alpha Centauri A). So how do I define ONLY a new texture? There is no other parameter of the star that I want to mess with, but I'm assuming that I can't just have an stc file with only a texture parameter and nothing else in ti.

Have you looked into any of these?

I sometimes change just the texture on a star for the screenshot.

Celestia v1.4.0 lets you specify a Texture. However, you also will have to provide the location and stellar type. STC files don't support the Modify declaration, although you can replace a star entirely.

So, if I want to change Alpha Centauri A's appearance, am I essentially going to have to make the STC file with a barycenter and all? Or can I do it *just* for the A-component?

All of the stars that are officially defined using Barycenters for v1.4.0 are in STC files in the /data/ directory. You can copy them and modify them appropriately. You only have to modify the appropriate Star, if that's all you want to do, not its Barycenter.
