The "ATI Display Software", for the most part, is not a video card driver.
The last post on the "X850 XT = disaster" forum thread says there's
going to be an updated driver soon, but I personally can't confirm that.

Yes, I have read the last message (and replied to it). Dirkpitt, are you in contact with some ATI guys ?

In the past, yes, but not recently. Incidentally, have you tried ATI Displays 4.5.5? I mentioned that the Displays software is generally not a ROM update, but in some cases it may provide an updated ATI ROM Xtender. It might be worth checking the date of that file before and after install (/System/Library/Extensions/AppleNDRV/ATI ROM Xtender), or you could just try running Celestia and check if the corruption still occurs.

Dirkpitt,

yes, I have installed the ATI Display software 4.5.5. It's working and I now have antialiasing back. But it doesn't solve any of my video problems. I still have the video noise and garbages in Celestia and in several other 3D applications. I also discovered the same problem as Celestia in "Myst V Demo", which is another OpenGL app (a 3D game, more precisely). Same kind of weird stuff as for Celestia. So this appears to be a complete proof that the bug isn't in Celestia. The bug is in the card drivers or (worst case) in the card itself. Of course, I hope it's NOT the video card itself (can it ?).

Apple urgently needs to update the video card drivers they are giving with their OS.
