Problem with name of a star

Post #1by Guckytos » 18.08.2005, 09:36

Hi there,

just wanted to create a star yesterday. It's name should have been "Xi Antlia". Now when i started Celestia i got no error message and could select the entry "Xi Antlia" via Enter/Name/Enter. But i got no information about the star and definitely couldn't go there. The name wasn't also shown with the greek "Xi" but with the normal name Xi.
When i named it "Xi_Antlia" everything worked fine.

does anyone know what causes such a problem and how can i circumnavigate it?

Regards,

Guckytos

Try writing the name as "XI Ant" and you should be fine. Celestia only uses the symbol if the Greek letter is written as an upper case abbreviation, and constellation names are processed in the program and converted to the three letter abbreviation.
