What does "VT" mean? What do I have to download in order to go BELOW the clouds and land on the Earth's surface?

Unfortunately, that depends on the addon. It's a case by case basis. Trial and error works best. Then, if you have a specific problem/question - post it.

Some addons come complete with everything you need, in the folders and sub-folders you need them in. Some are just the graphics files themselves and you need to package them yourself.

for example mine are just the images . There is a small text file that is neaded but the same file can be reused with only very minor changes .also the install dir can change ,depending on your likes so i leave that up to the user

so do some reading and take your time and after you get the first one working you will say to your self "man that was easy"
