PAINFULLY SLOW WEBSITE

When I click a link on this website, nothing happens!!!!!!!!

I have to wait for 45 seconds, then the page goes blank, wait another 10 seconds and the page starts to load... 45 seconds later, most of the page loads but graphics are still working.
Almost 2 minutes later, page is completely loaded.

Its been like this for 3 days...

I am assuming if its like this on Monday, I wont be able to participate because I am not willing to wait that long.

I guess its my loss because the Celestia program seems so cool..

Although it's slow, I'm not having that bad a problem.

Please do a traceroute and show the results. Its output should provide an indication of where the bottleneck is.

Under Windows, you'll have to open a command window (also mis-called a DOS window) and type the command

tracert 216.231.48.101

Linux and MacOS recognize the command

traceroute 216.231.48.101

The dotted number is the numeric address of shatters.net, so you don't have to wait for the nameservers to look it up. (I suppose that could be part of the problem. I put it in the local host table on my computer just to avoid that issue.)

Hi Murphy,

what's the size of your RWIN buffer and what MTU are you using??

With 250 msec ping time you are already in a quite elevated latency segment. So your TCP receive buffer must be pretty much higher than standard given your line speed. Also did you check that your packets are not chopped, with the MTU you are using??

I am really FAR away from Seattle (> 8100 Km air distance!) , where Chris server is located and my ping time is considerably higher than yours. Nevertheless, my performace over here is quite tolerable.

So something sounds strange with your problem...

Bye Fridger

I am just 120 miles from the server and I am not showing any slowdown. Teh server seems the normal speed to me. It has to be something on his end or in his ISP.

Don.
I am officially a retired member.
I might answer a PM or a post if its relevant to something.

Ah, never say never!!
Past texture releases, Hmm let me think about it

Thanks for your understanding.
