Yes, we'll need the rest of the text to see where the error occurred.

Just a quick heads up, I've received one report from an iBook (Radeon 9200) user who installed the new OS X update
10.3.8 and says that Celestia with vertex programs is not crashing any more. Perhaps other eMac, iBook, and any
Mac Mini users would like to corroborate this good news. I know that the ATI drivers have been updated, but haven't
received word from ATI on whether they fix Celestia.

As with any update, try to follow the MacFixit way of installing OS updates (quit programs, fix permissions with Disk Utility,
unplug FireWire devices, reboot, install update, fix permissions).

I'd like to have any feedback with the OS X update 10.3.8. I'm still on 10.3.3, because all other upgrades gave me some troubles, so I'm afraid to install the update.

Any 10.3.8 users in there ?

Hello,

I am using an iBook G4 1GHZ with a Radeon 9200 graphics card. Celestia still crashes after launching and displaying the Earth.

<<I've uploaded a new build of Celestia 1.4.0pre6 for OS X. You can get it here:

http://www.celestiamotherlode.net/creat ... 050201.zip

Changes:
- Erratic mouse issue fixed
- Model aliasing fixed
- Is able to find CelestiaResources folder on localized systems >>

Thank you for a great version; the erratic mouse and model display
concerns I was also having with the earlier 4.6 are now a thing of the past!

I do however notice a more pronouced blueish caste (as mentioned earlier here) on the nightside of earth - instead of turning black when ambient ligt is zero, it turns dark blue...

Regarding favorites; as you guys probably know, they can be converted from 1.3.2 by copy/pasting the applicable section of the old 1.3.2 "Celestia.plist" into the new 1.4 file "net.shatters.Celestia.plist"... I just saved one favorite in 1.4 first, so I'd know where to paste the stuff in from 1.3.2.

why can't mac movie capture?

is there something specific about the Macintosh that doesn't support movie capture? I was starting to try to do a build using the DevIL libraries to implement movie capture, but I'm having a hard time.... anyone have any advice on giving it a try?

I thought it would be relatively straightforward to implement using QuickTime.
I say "relatively", because the Carbon QuickTime api is about as easy to use as
driving a sledgehammer up one's nose. Still, what problems are you having?

actually, I haven't even been able to compile... I keep on getting errors about the zlib not being found, even though I've installed it.

I've tested and successfully compiled on both 10.2.8 and 10.3.x. It probably
won't compile (certainly won't run) on <10.2.x. If your OS X version is 10.2.x or
higher, then you don't need to install zlib. Sounds like you're trying to compile on
10.1.x or older.

(Added 2005-04-24) There have also been some recent changes to some cross-platform
code in CVS that may break Mac compiles. I'm trying to fix this right now.

I forgot to add that I haven't managed to get Celestia to compile on Tiger 10.4 yet. The new gcc gives me
very strange errors when compiling .mm's (Obj-C++). For example, CelestiaCore.mm fails with
"CelestiaAppCore.mm:251: error: cannot find interface declaration for `CelestiaCore'".

Any luck with getting Celestia to compile on Tiger? And, just curious, would compiling on Tiger (when it eventually works) result in an appreciably different version of a compiling of Celestia on 10.3 that was just then RUN on 10.4?

Actually, I got it to sort of compile now, but it may also require one change in the cross platform code
to get it working like before. I'll check in the required OS X CVS changes after I finish up some changes
to the directoy-handling code.

To answer your 2nd question, I haven't noticed any fundamental differences between a Tiger-compiled
Celestia and a Panther-compiled one. There isn't any breakage, but there aren't any noticable
improvements either.
