I was messing around with the files for Armada II, a Star Trek Real time strategy game when i found some planetary textures. They looked half the size of a Celestia texture so I doubled them up and scripted them. They are obviously at a lower quality file than a Celestia texture and I added Earth's cloud texture on it and they turned out well.
[I am not the author of this texture, All credit goes to the makers of Armada II]
Below are sceenshots of Qo'nos, the Klingon Homeworld and a Borg planet that came in the game ( if the links don't work, try copying and pasting the links because Geocities sucks):

I also textured from the game:
Romulus
Remus
a volcanic planet
two gas giants
a generic Class M (earthlike) planet
Tell me what you think...

When Major A Payne releases his final version of his mod you will find some textures I made for A2's standard planets...Feel free to use them...
Also You can use 1024 x 512 tga files in A2 as well for cloud textures...sadly you have to split the ones used for the ground...
I'm trying to teach the cavemen how to play scrabble, its uphill work. The only word they know is Uhh and they dont know how to spell it!

Cool! What's the name of his mod and how far along is it?

What are the names of the cloud textures?
Thanks.
The cloud textures are PA_ECRF0.tga in textures/rgb...You can modify the earth ones to 1024 x 512 or bigger if you like...Make sure the transparency is black and you add an alpha1 channel with the same picture...save as 32 bit uncompressed tga and your set...
If you want download my earth from http://www.armadafleetcommand.com to get an idea of what I did...
Major Paynes mod is called the Borg Incursion 2 mod and its currently available there too

Qonos is the moon prison right? Didn't it blow up in one of the movies?

Qo'nos is the home planet where the High Council is (also spelled Kronos). Rurapenthe is the frozen prison planet. Praxis is the mining moon that exploded at the beginning of Star Trek VI.
