1. type a capital-R to make sure you're viewing the highest resolution maps that come with Celestia
2. download and install higher resolution surface maps from http://www.celestiamotherlode.net/

newbie here also..wondering if you have been able to locate and use some better textures? I'm also looking....but right now, it is slow--trial and error.
Anyone with suggestions?
sys--XP, 512 ram, Nvidia 6200 128 ram.
