Selden,
you just locked the previous thread, right? "Since political comments are not allowed in this forum"...
Why can it be that such a relatively harmless issue is followed up, while the people responsible for this forum allow lots of "users" to register, who advertise on their /attached/ WEBsites
Atrocous Child Porn !?
Since , several days I am trying to point this out and NOTHING happens. It is both highly illegal and ...

Since you seem to have the time...
I'd suggest going through the 2,000-some registered users, find those that are advertising child porn (and any other questionable activities), and submit those websites to the proper places. For child porn, for instance, there are several places that you can report these sites. The following is at the top of the list, and itself lists several organizations that you can contact.

Reporting child porn is guaranteed to make you feel better!

I do what I can.
I can't do anything about user accounts. Only Chris can delete or block them.
Selden,
sure I know that this is not your fault! But a point has been reached, e.g.
http://russexland.com/
where Chris cannot simply continue to do just NOTHING...
I for one do not want to share my presence in this forum with registered users spreading child porn!
Bye Fridger

IMHO the only viable path seems to be:
- upgrade phpBB (this is necessary anyway for security reasons)
- activate visual confirmation on registration. This should keep nearly all bots away (but I am sure spammers are actively working to circumvent this protection - either by using more intelligent computer programs, or by employing people in low wage countries to do this manually )
- remove the worst offenders from the members list
The problem with removing members is that it's a slow process - look up the offending user name in the members list, look up managment form by entering user name, select delete, submit, return. It just takes too long to delete more than just a few names (I did this on the Motherlode).
Maybe all users who never posted to the forum and with an URL given in their profile should be removed, but this requires to have a careful look at the phpBB database structure first and there should be some advance warning for real users (so they can remove the URL from their profile to avoid deletion). Oh,and remove everybody with "*.boom.ru" as URL (is there any legitimate user with a .ru URL?).
This is really sad and such a waste of time.

Dollan, I'm sorry. My topic was not directly for you. But there was a political message in Fridger's topic as well as in yours...
I think at the moment NOBODY can be proud of politics in their country. And personnaly, I'm not... I think Fridger's photo pointed that very well. NOBODY can (must) give lessons and this forum has to stay over that.
Regards,
Vincent

This link is dangerous. Curious as I am, I clicked on it, and ended up with a couple of viruses on my computer.

That was something I had meant to mention: Whenever posting *any* suspicious link, *always* break it up somehow so that it is not clickable, by accident or curiosity. This is a standard cautionary procedure.

Too bad, I am immune to virtually all such animals...
Windows ==> Linux
(And for Windows, I have a well-known online Scanner on watch)
Sorry, but correspondingly, my 'preventive experience' is close to ZERO. I never have any virus/worms etc on my systems.
